OVERVIEW
The Compaq NC4621 provides Token Ring customers a Wake On LAN (WOL) solution, which allows the server or client or to be powered up remotely
from a sleep state during non-work hours. Because no one has to physically be present for power-up, this Wake on LAN feature enables businesses to
quickly and efficiently update drivers and software, conduct hardware and software audits, and perform other management tasks without interrupting PC
users during work hours.
PERFORMANCE
Dedicated Token Ring (DTR)
Full bandwidth can be dedicated to a workstation by providing a direct connection between it and a Token Ring switch that supports DTR. Full-duplex
support allows the Compaq NC4621 to transmit and receive data simultaneously for rates of up to 32 Mbps.
Buffer Memory
Performance is further ensured with 32K of buffer memory, which makes for low CPU utilization at high throughputs.
SECURITY/RELIABILITY
PCI Hot Plug Support
This feature enables adapters to be replaced or added to a PCI Hot Plug compatible server without having to power off the server. This can cut
maintenance time in half, and it allows for system maintenance during regular business hours.

Wake On LAN (WOL)
The NC4621 provides a popular method of Wake on LAN support using a 3-pin header. A system that supports Wake on LAN can remain available to a
systems administrator during its normal downtime. Once the machine is awakened, the systems administrator can remotely control, audit, debug or
manage the machine.
SNMP Manageability
Along with Wake on LAN, the NC4621 also provides standard SNMP MIB support and can be remotely monitored with Compaq Network Management
Software (CNMS), Compaq's Insight Manager or Compaq's Insight Manager XE.
Boot ROM Support
There is a socket on the Compaq NC4621 for Boot ROM capability. Boot ROM support allows diskless workstations to connect to the network, increasing
security and lowering the cost of hardware.

EASE OF USE
Plug and Play
The NC4621 features a robust Plug and Play capability for conflict-free auto configuration. Compaq's SmartStart configuration utility includes setup
support for the NC4621, so the NIC can be configured easily in server environments.
Driver Support
Compaq NC4621 drivers are backward compatible with existing Compaq (non-NetFlex) PCI Token Ring NICs and thus protect customers' current
investments.
Auto-negotiation
Auto-sensing capabilities enable the NC4621 to automatically negotiate between 4 and 16 Mbps to achieve the highest common speed on the network.
As businesses evolve from 4 to 16 Mbps Token Ring networks, there will be no need to buy new Token Ring NICs.
MAC Address Labels
Compaq's NC4621 has a MAC address label on the outside of the bracket to make network troubleshooting easier.
