OVERVIEW
Based on Intel's 82559 communications processor, the NC3123 server adapter incorporates a variety of features for faster throughput than previous
10/100 adapters, increasing flexibility and reducing support costs. The NC3123 delivers industry-standard drivers that are compatible with other Compaq
NC series Fast Ethernet adapters.
PERFORMANCE
High-Performance and Flexibility for Today's Businesses
Full-duplex support allows the NC3123 to transmit and receive data simultaneously at rates up to 20 Mbps for Ethernet and 200 Mbps for Fast Ethernet.
Performance is further enhanced with 6 KB of buffer memory, which makes for low CPU utilization at high throughputs. Auto-sensing capabilities enable it
to automatically negotiate between 10 and 100 Mbps to achieve the highest common speed on the network.
Port Bonding
Transmit Load Balancing (TLB) and Switch-Assisted Load Balancing (FEC/GEC/802.3ad static-mode configuration only) are two port-bonding methods
supported by the NC3123. TLB provides both failover and balancing of transmit traffic across all adapters for increased performance. For even higher
performance, Switch-Assisted Load Balancing (SLB) provides port failover and balancing of both transmit and receive traffic across all adapters when
connected to a switch that supports this feature.
Bus-mastering
This controller uses bus-mastering technology to maximize throughput and minimize CPU utilization.

reduce power consumption, and is Novell NetWare certified.
SECURITY/RELIABILITY
Network Fault Tolerance (NFT)
The Network Fault Tolerance feature of the NC3123 ensures that the server can always keep an active link. After installing a second, compatible adapter,
if the primary network connection fails, the second, backup adapter will automatically take over, retaining the network connection. The NC3123 can be
configured to fail over to any NC31xx, NC61xx, or NC71xx adapter by using the latest drivers.
PCI Hot Plug
PCI Hot Plug support enables the network controller to be replaced or added to a PCI Hot Plug compatible server without powering down the system. This
feature provides increased system availability and non-stop serviceability in business-critical computing environments.
Diagnostic LED Indicators
LEDs indicate link, speed, and network activity for "at-a-glance" troubleshooting.

Server Integration
Compaq's SmartStartTM configuration utility includes setup support for the NC3123 so that the adapter can be configured as part of the SmartStart
configuration process. Compaq Insight Manager can recognize the NC3123 individually or in port bonded teams, and can collect and report SNMP
statistics on the server adapter events. The Compaq Network Management System can also collect and report SNMP statistics on the NC3123.
Integrated Management Log (IML) support is provided by the NC3123 for critical event logging on Compaq servers.

Wake On LAN
The Compaq NC3123 Fast Ethernet Server Adapter provides two popular methods of Wake on LAN support: using a 3-pin header or through the PCI bus.
A system that supports Wake on LAN can remain available to a system administrator during its normal downtime. Once the machine is awakened, the
system administrator can remotely control, audit, debug, or manage the machine.
