Run Object Link Manager on All Nodes
Object Link Manager simplifies the creation and maintenance of symbolic
links between disk partitions and Oracle data files by placing the symbolic link
names directly into the disk partitions, thereby tracking the symbolic links
dynamically. This means that if the order in which disk drives are brought
online changes, Oracle8 Server or Oracle8i Server can find the correct data
files and can properly start the Oracle database.
Object Link Manager also provides a detailed view of the Oracle partitions and
their symbolic link associations in the cluster's shared storage.
To view the shared storage information from Object Link Manager, perform
these tasks:
1. From each node, run Object Link Manager.
2. Verify that it runs properly and displays no errors. If necessary, use the
online help facility to assist you in your navigation of Object Link
Manager.
3. Verify that Object Link Manager can see all Oracle partitions and their
symbolic link associations and that this view is consistent across all
nodes.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 on all other nodes in the cluster.
5. If Object Link Manager does not run properly or displays incorrect
Oracle partition and symbolic link information on one or more nodes,
proceed to "Restart All Affected Nodes In the Cluster" in this appendix
for further instructions.
For instructions on installing and using Object Link Manager, see the readme
file:
\Object Link Manager\readme.txt

Restart All Affected Nodes in the Cluster
If Object Link Manager does not run properly on one or more nodes or does
not provide consistent information about Oracle partitions and symbolic links
from all nodes, perform these steps:
1. Identify the node or nodes on which Object Link Manager either does
not run properly or does not present the correct information about
Oracle partitions and symbolic links.
2. Restart each affected node.
3. Proceed to "Rerun and Validate Object Link Manager On All Affected
Nodes" in this appendix for further instructions.
Rerun and Validate Object Link Manager
On All Affected Nodes
Perform these steps from every node on which Object Link Manager does not
run properly:
1. Verify that the Object Manager service is properly installed on the node.
For instructions on installing and using Object Link Manager, refer to
this readme file contained on the Compaq Parallel Database Cluster for
Oracle Releases 8.0.5/8.0.6 and 8.1.5/8.1.6 Clustering Software CD:
\Object Link Manager\readme.txt
2. Verify that the correct symbolic link names have been used for the
shared disk partitions.
3. Restart the Object Manager service.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for all nodes in the cluster.

Run and Validate Secure Path Manager
On All Nodes
The Secure Path Manager screens provide information about the shared
storage resources in the cluster, including MA8000/EMA12000 Storage
Subsystem storagesets, array controller path configurations, drive lettering,
and volume labels.
To run and validate Secure Path Manager, perform these steps from each node:
1. Use the Secure Path Manager screens to verify that every storageset is
visible and that all logical disks and HSG80 Array Controllers are
correctly and consistently defined across all nodes. Also confirm that the
attributes associated with the shared disks are consistent across all
nodes. Refer to the documentation provided with the Secure Path
software for detailed information about Secure Path Manager screens.
2. Verify that the version number for Secure Path Manager is correct.
Refer to the Compaq Parallel Database Cluster Model PDC/O5000
Certification Matrix for version information.
3. Verify that Secure Path Manager has been properly installed on the
node. Refer to "Installing Secure Path Under Windows NT for the
MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem" in Chapter 6, "Installation
and Configuration for Oracle8 Release 8.0.5/8.0.6," or Chapter 7,
"Installation and Configuration for Oracle8i Release 8.1.5/8.1.6," for
installation instructions.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for all nodes in the cluster.

Run Windows NT Server Disk
Administrator On All Nodes
Perform these steps from each node:
1. From Windows NT Server Disk Administrator, verify that the shared
storage disks from each MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem are
visible.
2. Verify that all shared drive information (drive letters, volume labels,
number of partitions, partition sizes, etc.) is consistent across all nodes.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for all nodes in the cluster.
Run and Validate the StorageWorks
Command Console From All Storage
Subsys tems
The Compaq StorageWorks Command Console (SWCC), as well as the
Command Line Interface (CLI), is used to configure the hardware aspects of
the shared disk drives connected to the HSG80 Array Controllers. SWCC and
CLI allow you to configure RAID levels and to add or remove physical disk
drives or storagesets to a cluster. Like Disk Administrator and Secure Path
Manager, SWCC provides a graphical user interface presentation of the shared
storage resources in the cluster.
To run and validate the SWCC from each node, perform these steps:
1. From the SWCC, verify that all shared storage subsystems and their
logical disks are visible and consistent across all nodes.
2. Verify that each storage subsystem's serial number for all shared disks
is consistent across all nodes.
3. Verify that the RAID configurations of shared disks are consistent
across all nodes.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for all nodes in the cluster.

Perform Cluster Software and Firmware
Checks
Use the Compaq SmartStart and Support Software CD to perform these checks
on the cluster software and firmware:
1. Verify that all necessary drivers have been installed. For example, verify
that the driver for the KGPSA-BC Host Bus Adapter is installed and
running on all cluster nodes. Refer to "Installing Secure Path Under
Windows NT for the MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem" in
Chapter 6, "Installation and Configuration for Oracle8 Release
8.0.5/8.0.6" or Chapter 7, "Installation and Configuration for Oracle8i
Release 8.1.5/8.1.6" for driver installation guidelines.
2. Verify that that the version levels for all drivers, including those for
KGPSA-BC Host Bus Adapters and HSG80 Array Controllers, are
correct and consistent across all nodes.
3. Verify that all firmware versions, including those for the system ROM
on each server, the host bus adapter firmware, and array controller
firmware, are correct and consistent across all nodes.
NOTE: Refer to the Compaq Parallel Database Cluster Model PDC/O5000 Certification
Matrix for information about supported software and firmware versions for this PDC.
Perform Cluster Hardware Checks
Validate the cluster hardware by performing these steps:
1. Determine whether or not hardware errors or communications transport
failures might be causing the problem. Use Windows NT Event Viewer
to verify that no hardware errors or transport problems exist. Check the
event log for disk I/O error messages or indications of problems with the
communications transport.
2. Determine whether or not the Compaq servers support the physical
SCSI disks that are installed in the MA8000/EMA12000 Storage
Subsystems. Check the event log for disk I/O error messages or
indications of problems with the communications transport.
3. Verify that the indicator lights on the host bus adapters, storage switches
or storage hubs, and array controllers are all green.

4. Verify that the Gigabit Interface Converter-Shortwave (GBIC-SW)
modules are all the correct brand or model type and are properly seated
in the host bus adapters, storage switches or storage hubs, and array
controllers
5. Inspect all Fibre Channel cables to verify that they are in good condition
and have no breaks or excessive bends.
6. Verify that the Fibre Channel cables are properly installed and
connected to the the host bus adapters, storage switches or storage hubs,
and array controllers. For details on how to connect the GBIC-SW
modules and the Fibre Channel cables, refer to the documentation
provided with these hardware products.
7. Verify that all host bus adapters, array controllers, and shared disk drive
modules are properly installed and seated in their receptacles.
