CISL - Compaq Intelligent Services Link - *Compaq Intelligent Services Link (CISL) consists of hardware and softwarecomponents that establish and manage a proactive two-way serviceconnection between customer and service provider.*
CISL has been renamed to PRS - Proactive Remote Support

*Note 1*: The WEBES suite - Compaq Analyze, CCAT, and RCM available in
one installation kit
*Note 2*: The CRSS suite - WorldWire, CRSM, and VNC available in one
installation kit. This installation is required only for remote access
back into the managed system from the service provider.

Automated Notification
======================
CISL allows customer systems to automatically send securely encrypted
service event notifications (detected system problems) to the service
provider call handling center. Customer systems self-report by running
automated software agents that detect and forward events to a specially
designated Customer Service Gateway (CSG). The CSG sends the events to a
counterpart Service Provider Gateway (SPG) at the service provider site,
which routes the events to call handling systems.
Remote Access
-------------
CISL lets service representatives who have customer permission remotely
connect back to affected systems for diagnosis and maintenance.
Representatives establish the secure connection back through the SPG and CSG
using the same encryption and authentication established for notification.
With Compaq Service Cockpit, they have access to a wide variety of diagnosis
and maintenance tools, installed both on the customer system and within the
service provider site itself.
Security
--------
WorldWire software establishes the CSG-to-SPG connection, and provides
encryption and authentication either through secure Internet virtual private
network (VPN) or secure point-to-point modem remote access service (RAS).
CISL as Infrastructure
----------------------
While CISL lays down the enabling infrastructure for the connection between
customer and service provider, how customers use CISL depends on what type
of managed systems they have and what they want to monitor and maintain.
These decisions, in turn, determine what service offerings a customer
participates in.
Service Offerings
-----------------
Over time, Compaq expects to increase the service offerings that take
advantage of CISL. Known service offerings as of this writing are as
follows. Newer offerings typically include the term Compaq Proactive Remote
Support (PRS).
*PRS for Storage*, informally known as "Storage Phone Home,"
provides detection and auto-reporting of events in storage subsystems
connected to Windows, UNIX, and OpenVMS servers. Remote access to the
host server is available.
*PRS for AlphaServer* is a derivative of PRS for Storage, in
that the same agents that allow for auto-reporting of storage events
will detect and auto-report events directly affecting UNIX and OpenVMS
servers. Remote access also is available.
This is not really a derivative of Storage PRS, it is
actually SICL.
*Legacy service* primarily refers to the redirection of existing
SICL reporting on older platforms so that reporting uses the CISL
infrastructure and CSG. Remote access also is possible, but is mutually
exclusive with any automated legacy SICL reporting.
*PRS for ProLiant*, informally known as "ProLiant Phone Home,"
provides for detection and auto-reporting of events affecting Windows
Intel servers on SNMP-managed networks. Remote access also is available.
