Description
===========
The DEC FDDIcontroller/Futurebus/Plus open systems adapter provides
connectivity between Compaq's DEC 4000 family of processors and FDDI
networks. It also provides FDDI connection for other vendors' products
equipped with a profile "B" Futurebus.
The DEC FDDIcontroller/Futurebus/Plus offers the dual attachment station
(DAS) option to support connecting servers directly in an FDDI dual ring
without a wiring concentrator or hub, or as a "dual-homed" connection to two
wiring concentrators. It supports both multimode fiber (MMF) for distances
of up to 2 km between stations, and single-mode fiber (SMF) for up to 40 km
between stations.
The DEC FDDIcontroller/Futurebus/Plus provides the highest aggregate
throughput when operated in full-duplex mode. When connected point-to-point
with a cooperating adapter port or FDDI switch (such as the GIGAswitch/FDDI
system), FDDI Full-Duplex Technology (FFDT) operates without a token. This
eliminates the latencies associated with passing the token and allows
simultaneous transmission and receipt of data in both directions at 100
Mb/s.
