_Top-of-page_ Description =========== The Compaq NC3121 network adapter is a device that provides connectivity between a computer system an an Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN). A computer system is any Intel/PCI based computer system with a compatible PCI slot, OS driver support and Ethernet hub connection. The Compaq NC3131 Fast Ethernet NIC is a high performance, upgradable NIC with two fully integrated 10Base-T/100Base-TX networking chips. The NIC supports emerging standards for system manageability and power management, such as ACPI. The Compaq NC3131 NIC is a sophisticated 64-bit PCI component with enhanced scatter-gather bus-mastering capabilities. Its true 64-bit architecture enables it to perform high-speed data transfers on the PCI bus using four DMA channels. Its sophisticated microcode-based engine enables the controllers to process high level commands and perform multiple operations without CPU intervention. The NC3131 also operates in a standard 32-bit PCI slot and will support both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Features ======== Wake on LAN (WOL) - Enables remote system power up and maintenance during non-work hours Remote Wake Up (Magic Packet*) support in APM and ACPI modes Full ACPI and system wake-up support, including wake-up from a device D3cold state (i.e., with system main power off). LanDesk Service Agent v2.0 (LSA) boot code contained in on-board flash memory. (64Kb) Glueless 32-bit PCI bus master interface 208-pin SQFP (Intel 82558) 82557-Style Chained Memory Structure streamlined for performance enhancement Backwards compatible with 82557 software Internal transmit and receive FIFOs (3 Kbytes each) 6 KB total buffer memory - Allows low CPU utilization at high throughputs Back-to-back transmit at 100 Mbs within minimum IFS EEPROM support for configuration and customization feature section ACPI and PCI Power Management standards compliant ACPI "interesting" packet wake up support in D0 to D3cold low power states IEEE 802.3u Auto-Negotiation for hardware selection of highest operating speed Full or half duplex capable at 10 or 100 Mbps IEEE 802.3x flow control support Bay Technologies flow control support with the internal 100BASE-TX PHY Test modes: Nand Tree and Test Access Ports Adapter power provided by either the PCI bus, or the +5V standby supply, via three pin header Management flexibility - Allows remote monitoring of the controller using Compaq Insight Manager, Compaq CNMS management software, or any other SNMP-compliant management solution Compaq and Intel driver compatibility - Allows standardization on either Compaq or Intel Fast Ethernet NICs Embedded Boot ROM support - Allows MIS personnel to remotely install and configure software Fault tolerance, redundancy - Allows a second NIC to maintain an active link when a connection fails Full-duplex support - Allows the Fast Ethernet NIC to transmit and receive data simultaneously for rates up to 20 Mb/s (Ethernet) or 200 Mb/s (Fast Ethernet) Auto-negotiation to 10 or 100 Mb/s - Automatically connects the NIC at the highest common speed, without requiring configuration changes PCI "plug and play" installation - Allows easy installation without conflict with other installed cards Diagnostic LEDs - Allows easy installation and troubleshooting of the NIC _Top-of-page_ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
