_Top-of-page_ Description =========== The Compaq NC3135 Fast Ethernet upgrade module provides two additional 10/100BASE-TX ports for the NC3134 or NC3131 Fast Ethernet server adapter. The upgrade module provides a scalable transition path from Ethernet to Fast Ethernet to Bonded Fast Ethernet. The NC3135 contributes additional redundancy and bandwidth to the server without having to change the server adapter or the operating system driver. Like the NC3134 Fast Ethernet NIC, the NC3135 features 32-bit/33MHz performance using Intel's latest networking silicon, the 82559 ASIC. The NC3135 ships with the same advanced server features of the NC3131, such as support for Network Fault Tolerance, Adaptive Load Balancing, and Cisco Fast EtherChannel. The dual ports allow customers to configure the NC3135 for failover to achieve greater reliability or for various modes of port bonding for greater performance. The NC3135 uses the NC3134 or NC3131 base card connector, which is a 32-/64-bit PCI Universal Connector for operation in 32- or 64-bit PCI slots, and it supports both 33- and 66-MHz bus speeds. The NC3135 also uses the base card bus-mastering technology to maximize throughput and minimize CPU utilization. The NC3135 plugs into the NC3134 or NC3131 Fast Ethernet Server Adapter without requiring any tools. Fully compliant with the Plug and Play 2.2 PCI specification, the NC3135 upgrade module automatically configures its I/O address and interrupt settings for easy installation. The NC3135 includes PCI Hot Plug support that enables PCI networking controllers to be replaced or added to a server without powering down the system. This feature provides increased system availability and non-stop serviceability in business-critical computing environments. The NC3135 uses the same operating system drivers as the NC3134 and no driver change is required when moving from 10 to 100 Mbps. In addition, these same drivers can be used for all Compaq Intel-based 10 or 100 Mbps server adapters. Common drivers provide consistency, easy management, and support to save money and time. Using the Compaq supplied OS drivers, the NC3135 senses for 10 or 100 Mbps and half- or full-duplex operation and automatically configures to the highest network connection speed between the adapter and hub or switch port. The Network Fault Tolerance feature of the NC3135 ensures that the server can always keep an active link. Using either of the ports on the base adapter or after installing a second, compatible adapter, if the primary network connection fails for any reason, the second, backup port or adapter will automatically take over, retaining the network connection. For even higher performance, Switch-Assisted Load Balancing (SLB) provides port failover and balancing of both transmit and receive traffic across all adapters when connected to a switch that supports this feature. Interrupt Coalescence and receive checksum offload capabilities lower the CPU utilization of the NC3135 when it runs in a Windows 2000 environment. Features ======== Intel 82559 ASIC Bus-mastering, 64-bit/66MHz PCI Dual port Both ports support IEEE 802.3u Auto-Negotiation for 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX IEEE 802.3x flow control support Full or half duplex mode at 10 or 100 Mbps on both ports Interrupt Coalescence under all the major operating systems and Receive Checksum Offloading under Windows 2000 LEDs show link integrity, activity, and speed Support for PCI Hot Plug Internal transmit and receive buffers Modular design for easy upgrade to another pair of 10/100 ports, a 100Mbps fiber port, or to Gigabit Ethernet SX or LX Limited lifetime warranty _Top-of-page_ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
