*Product Description*
=====================
The AlphaServer 4000 range forms a new low-cost entry level to the mid-range
of the AlphaServer departmental systems. The AlphaServer 4000 systems share
many of the same characteristics of the AlphaServer 4100 models. The major
difference being the AlphaServer 4000 models have less CPU and memory
expansion.
The AlphaServer 4000 models support 1 or 2 processors, versus the 4100s 1 to
4-way processor support. Also, the AlphaServer 4000's memory capacity is
half that of the 4100s.
An AlphaServer 4000 system can be field upgraded to an AlphaServer 4100. The
upgrade includes a change in the backplane to make two further system bus
slots available for processors.
Alternatively, the AlphaServer 4000 can use this upgrade path to increase
its I/O capacity. The two system bus slots created can also be used to
connect a further two 64-bit 250MB/sec 4-slot PCI channels. This potentially
gives the AlphaServer 4000 8 additional, or a total of, 16 PCI slots.
Note users have, either the option to either upgrade to the 4100, and thus
double the processor support, or the option to double the I/O support. Not
both.
The AlphaServer 4100 systems support various cluster options, including
OpenVMS clusters, UNIX TruClusters (memory Channel), AdvantageCluster (UNIX)
and Windows NT Cluster.
ServerWORKS Manager V1.1 for AlphaServer systems running Digital UNIX and
Windows NT is shipped free of charge with all AlphaServer systems.
ServerWORKS manager V1.1 for AlphaServer systems provides system and network
management by providing realtime server status data. ServerWORKS manager is
similar to Compaq's Insight Manager.
