Description
===========
ES45 is a high-performance symmetric-multiprocessing server system based on
ES40 design. ES45 is designed as a replacement product for the ES40. The
ES45 will be offered in Server Configurations. The primary hardware
difference between the Server and Workstation configurations is inclusion of
the 10-slot PCI backplane for the server and the 8-slot PCI with 1 AGP slot
in the workstation, as well as differences in OS user licenses.
Features
========
One to four 1000 MHz Alpha 21264 64-bit RISC processors with 8
MB of L2 cache per processor *or* One to four 1250 MHz Alpha 21264
64-bit RISC processors with 16 MB of L2 cache per processor
Memory Bus speed 125Mhz providing an aggregate bandwidth of 8
GBytes/sec (two busses at 4 GB/sec each, 256bit data busses each.
Core Logic chips consisting of D-chips (8- Data switching
cross-bar chips), C-chip (Controller & Address generation chip), and
P-chip (2-PCI busses/chip) have been re-designed for the ES45 for higher
bandwidth and additional busses (P-chip).
4-PCI busses are provided on the ES45 with 3 at 64bit/66Mhz and
one at 64bit/33Mhz compared to the ES40 which had 2 busses at
32bit/33Mhz. Total I/O bandwidth is increased from 528 MBytes/sec to
1.85 GBytes/sec of aggregate I/O bandwidth..
ECC protection for memory, processor cache and system data paths
Compaq Universal 1.0" Ultra3-SCSI disk drives
4-way SMP server
Hot-swap PCI slots
