Description =========== The Compaq AlphaServer Global Solutions (GS) series of servers are the first to be powered by Alpha 21264 microprocessors. They build on the success of AlphaServer 8200 and 8400 servers, but offer up to twice the power and application performance of previous generations. Every Compaq AlphaServer GS60 and GS140 system has built-in features for reliability and availability, including: Ability to configure fully redundant I/O channels with multiple paths to I/O devices Internal error checking and correcting code Hot swap disks Auto re-boot N+1 power redundancy System monitoring that is visible through LED's and readable by system software Test-directed diagnostics and symptom-directed diagnostics Modular field replaceable units Back-door access to failed subsystems for ease of repair For high availability and easy system management, cluster hardware and software creates redundant system nodes and paths to data with automatic failover Upgrades - AlphaServer 8200/GS60 to AlphaServer GS60E ===================================================== Upgrades from an AlphaServer GS60 or an 8200 allow you to migrate to the new cabinet with minimal disruption. Your investment in CPU, memory, and PCI I/O options is protected. The GS60E uses the same Alpha 21264 processor module, the same memory modules, and the same I/O port modules as all AlphaServer 8000 and GS systems. The GS60E uses the same devices from GS60/8200 StorageWorks shelves and all the PCI options. Because the mounting brackets are different (RETMA vs metric), you cannot install the same StorageWorks shelves and DWLPB PCI card cages into the GS60E cabinet. There is also a new variant of the KFE72 option for this cabinet. The GS60E upgrade includes the new system cabinet, the seven system bus slots, one StorageWorks shelf, and one PCI shelf to move over existing options. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
