Netware Clustering Management Software Novell Cluster Services 1.6
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Novell Cluster Services 1.6 and Novell Storage
Services 3.0 work together to protect shared storage
devices from uncoordinated access. NSS 3.0 helps
protect shared storage devices using a flag that
labels these devices as Sharable for Clustering.
Novell Cluster Services 1.6 provides protection for
data in shared storage systems at the storage pool
level.
Novell Cluster Services 1.6 also includes a new
heartbeat statistics tool. The cluster's "heartbeat"
refers to a group protocol that cluster nodes use to
transmit heartbeat packets at regular intervals over
the Ethernet LAN that connects the nodes. (The
default setting is once every second.) These
heartbeat transmissions enable nodes to keep track of
one another and to detect potential node failures.
Novell Cluster Services 1.6 also includes new
diagnostic tools, including a persistent cluster
event log of significant cluster events such as a
cluster resource status changing from running to
"comatose." You can view this log from NetWare Remote
Manager or from ConsoleOne.
Novell Cluster Services 1.6 also includes a new
heartbeat statistics tool. The cluster's "heartbeat"
refers to a group protocol that cluster nodes use to
transmit heartbeat packets at regular intervals over
the Ethernet LAN that connects the nodes. (The
default setting is once every second.) These
heartbeat transmissions enable nodes to keep track of
one another and to detect potential node failures.
Novell Cluster Services 1.6 supports Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP) through management
information base (MIB) extensions developed by
Compaq. As with any MIB extension, Compaq's
clustering MIB defines the entities, in this case
cluster entities, you can monitor using SNMP.
NetWare Remote Manager can be used to manage the
cluster, regardless of which nodes are running because
Novell Cluster Services 1.6 now has a special Cluster
IP address. You create this Cluster IP address when you
install the clustering software. You use either
ConsoleOne or NetWare Remote Manager to edit this
address later. When you enter the Cluster IP address
from your browser, you can configure and manage any
node in your cluster.
*Warranty* Standard server hardware warranty.
*High Availability* Compaq has recently released extended services specific
*CarePaqs* to high-availability servers, such as consulting and
business critical services. Compaq maintains a global
services and support network that includes a large number
of NT-trained technicians throughout the world. For more
detailed information on high-availability services, go to
Description
===========
There are two Netware 6.0 Clustering product configurations from Compaq
announcing on October 9, 2001. These configurations support two to twelve
cluster nodes and comprise of the following kits:
1) N100 Kit: Basic Documentation Kit
2) N200 Kit: Netware Cluster Services Version x.xx with the RA400
and RA4100
3) N500 Kit: Netware Cluster System for the MA8000 / EMA12000
Family of Storage
The N200 and N500 Kits provide support for specific versions of Secure Path
(v3.0A) for NetWare Redundancy Manager depending on the storage system that
is configured. The kits contain documentation, CDROM for the RA41200 /
MA8000, and software to implement a ProLiant Cluster for NetWare 6.0.
-----
*NOTE: Operating Systems Purchased Separately* The Novell NetWare 6
operating system and the NetWare Cluster Services software need to be
purchased separately.
Features
========
Up to 12 node all-active cluster support. Any NetWare server in
the cluster can restart resources (applications, services, IP addresses,
and volumes) from a failed server in the cluster. License for 2-nodes
configuration included. Licenses for additional cluster nodes must be
purchased.
Data Center configuration supports 32 cluster nodes.
Improved performance of SMP configurations: Symmetric Multiple
Processors, 2P, 4P, and 8P.
Supports a mixed server cluster environment.
Support for Compaq's 64-Bit/66MHz Host Bus Adapter
Support for RA4100, Redundant loop with cascaded loop switch
(one hop)
Support for RA4100, Redundant loop with cascaded Fabric SAN
switch (one hop)
Support for RA/MA8000, Redundant loop with cascaded Fabric SAN
switch (up to 3 hops)
Note: MA8000 and RA4100 redundant loop configurations (Secure Path)
require dual fabrics.
FCAL switch, 8 and 11 ports - Cascaded up to one hop
Fibre Channel SAN switch/8EL, /16EL - Cascaded up to one hop
Single loop with cascaded loop switch.
Short wave GBICs and Long wave GBICs.
Hub 7 and Hub 12 (8 server nodes max with redundancy)
NetWare 6
NetWare Cluster Services v1.6
Cluster migration utility
Upgrade path from Netware 5.0 Cluster to Netware 6.0 Cluster
configurations. (Important: Can not mix Netware 5.0 and Netware 6.0
Cluster Nodes)
Secure Path 3.0 for NetWare- Failover and failback- Redundant
controllers- Redundant HBA's
SSP: the FC Interconnects will allow servers with different OS's
(NetWare and NT) to use the same switch. Each OS must have its own
dedicated storage array(s).
The Ethernet LAN carries the heartbeat communication between
servers.
CIM /XE discovery and monitoring of NetWare Cluster using Common
Cluster MIB.
Single point administration through the Novell Console-One
cluster configuration and monitoring GUI.
Dynamic assignment and reassignment of server storage on an
as-needed basis.
Seamless client connectivity and preserved drive maps throughout
cluster failover.
The certification of the latest ProLiant Servers and
StorageWorks Storage Arrays for use in ProLiant NetWare Clusters which
may be mixed with existing ProLiant servers to protect existing customer
investment.
ProLiant NetWare Clusters fibre channel interconnect support:
RA4100 storage family: Fibre Channel Hubs and FC-AL Switches
MA8000 storage family: Fibre Channel Hubs and FC SAN
Switches
Cluster Kits are now available for ProLiant NetWare Clusters
including:
HA/N100 - Basic Cluster Documentation Kit (for supported
fibre channel storage, no redundancy manager)
HA/N200 - Cluster Kit with Secure Path redundancy manager
for RA4100 family
HA/N500 - Cluster Kit with Secure Path redundancy manager
