Description =========== The HP StorageWorks Library & Tape Tools software is used to help install and support Hewlett Packard Data Protection storage products. In addition to its diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities, it offers useful information about products, and it offers the ability to automatically check the Web for the latest firmware. It also has the capacity to create a Firmware Update Tape (FUP) for LTO or DLT drives. L&TT automatically scans the system for supported devices when the tool is started. By default, only the current number of devices found is displayed during the I/O scan. Additional information such as host adapters, drivers, and matching of embedded drives to the associated library can also be shown during the scan process. Scan results can be saved in an event log and attached to a support ticket email if necessary. L&TT identifies and displays a list of all products connected to the system by product group or by connection. Tabs allow the user to toggle between the following commands in this area of the main screen: scan, by product, by connection, and instructions. Features ======== *Install Check:* This will guide you through the installation of the product, from choosing the correct SCSI ID to checking that the product can read and write effectively. *Device Identification:* Shows clearly which product is connected to a server, and it shows detailed information on the configuration of the product. *Troubleshooting Diagnostics: *Various tests are available to help get to the root cause of any difficulties a product has. *Device Analysis:* As new and improved ways of diagnosing products arise, HP will release device analysis files. These will inform you of known issues and will provide advice on how to get the best out of an HP storage product. This one-button drive test is available as an option under the Diagnostic test. *Firmware Upgrades:* This provides a quick and easy way of updating the firmware in a product to take full advantage of the ongoing improvements of HP products during their life. Getting this new firmware is easy: connect to the Internet, and click *Get Firmware from Web*; the program will tell if there is new firmware for a current product(s), and it will download it directly. On libraries you can also upgrade the library and the embedded drive firmware simultaneously by clicking one button. ----- *NOTE: HP-UX Does Not Support* HP-UX supports all major LTT Windows capabilities except 'Get files from web' utility
-----
*Improved Support Experience:* If an HP storage product has a problem, viewing the Support Ticket will make getting to the root cause much quicker. *U.S. only:* If you do not want to phone for support, you can automatically e-mail this to an HP support center and the staff will help. ----- *NOTE: Quicker Service* In the event you do phone a call center, having this information will stream line the support experience and enable the support staff to better serve you. -----
*Read/Write test (tape drives):* These write random data to the tape cartridge, reads it back, and compares the data with what was written. *Media Validation test (tape drives):* reads data from a tape cartridge. *SCSI Connectivity test (tape drives):* performs a drive self-test, then sends data to the write buffer, reads it back, and compares the data to see if it matches (not all drives support writing data to the write buffer, such as, the STK9840 tape drive only performs a read buffer test). *Automatic Web Updates:* If you have an Internet connection, when running HP Library and Tape Tools HP, Automatic Web Updates will automatically inform you of the following updates: New versions of the tool available. New firmware available for products. New device analysis rules available for products. ----- *NOTE: Can Be Disabled* If you do not want this feature, it can be disabled during installation or in the preferences program within the application.
-----
*Media Migration:* This enables migrating data from a DLT drive to one of the new HP new Ultrium drives quickly and easily. *Library Exerciser:* Moves cartridges in a tape or MO library from slot to slot (if supported). Then, it loads a cartridge in every empty drive and performs a SCSI connectivity test on each drive in the library. *SCSI Script:* This provides HP the ability to produce small script files to expand the capabilities and functionality of Library and Tape Tools.
