*What's New* *Pay-Per-Use Option for Capacity on Demand Computing Program* The COD project represents Compaq's initiatives to focus on the Pay-Per-Use paradigm. Systemic and financial information along with high-level data flows are to be identified in order to support the Computing on Demand initiative, largely based on Server On Demand (SOD) model. The data includes transactions and reporting flows, as well as back-end reporting and billing/invoicing components.
The Compaq Pay-Per-Use (PPU) solution offers the customer a flexible pricing plan based on actual server usage. The customer has the ability to turn servers in their inventory on and off as demand dictates. PPU is an integral part of the Computing on Demand initiative.
In order to meet the needs of the customers, Compaq intends to implement PPU as one of the alternative solutions under the Computing on Demand concept. This solution will provide Compaq a competitive edge that cannot be matched in the near term.
PPU allows the customer the ability to select a pricing plan in which the customer is billed only for the computer usage consumed. This requirement is based on competitive demands to effectively serve businesses.
Computing on Demand is a wide spectrum of solutions to the market in three core space schemes: Access, Capacity (servers and storage) and Applications.
Access includes a PC utility convention for both custom and packaged applications.
Capacity includes servers (ProLiant, Alpha, and Himalaya) and storage as a hardware solution, and private server utilities, both custom and packaged utilities.
Applications include MS Exchange, file and print.
*Program Server Pay-Per-Use Option for On-Demand Summary* Computing Program
The COMPAQ Server Pay-Per-Use (SPPU) solution builds off of the Compaq Computing on Demand for ProLiant Servers (CCODPS). The CCODPS service model automates and streamlines planning, instant server acquisition, deployment, support, and billing - enabling customers to optimize asset management and cash flow management, drive rapid execution, and quickly respond to fluctuating demand.
Increasing the ability to meet customer demand when and where it is needed, the CCODPS provides customers with instant availability of pre-configured servers, on-site and ready to run, at their data centers decreasing the need for customers to carry excess inventory and eliminating the risk of stock-out issues.
SPPU offers the customer a flexible pricing plan based on actual server usage. The customer has the ability to turn servers in their inventory on and off as demand dictates. SPPU is an integral part of the Computing on Demand initiative.
In order to meet the needs of the customers, Compaq intends to implement SPPU as one of the alternative solutions under the Computing on Demand concept. This solution will provide Compaq a competitive edge that cannot be matched in the near term. *Partner Initially, the Compaq Capacity on Demand for Value ProLiant servers is targeted for Enterprise Proposition* customers and xService Providers with whom Compaq has a direct relationship. Compaq's goal for the program is to be transparent to the customer whether it is Compaq or one of our selected partners selling and marketing the key program elements.
Compaq will work aggressively with our Partner community to enhance our ability to sell and market Capacity on Demand for ProLiant servers and extend this capability to a broader market. Our current plan is to begin to expand this offering to other Partners in the 4Q01 timeframe.
